 ent its next exhibition, What Stands Between Us and the Sun, the newes
 t project from Rhode Island-based artist team, Megan and Murray McMill
 an. The exhibition will be opening Friday, October 8, 2010 and running
  through Saturday, November 27th. The opening reception will take plac
 e on October 8th from 6-9pm with an artist talk following on Tuesday, 
 November 9, 7-9pm.\n\nWhat Stands Between Us and the Sun is a new phot
 o, installation, and video project. In a warehouse in Central Falls, R
 hode Island, the McMillans built an artificial lake in an invented wor
 ld where performers alter the lake’s structure to fabricate an eclip
 se of the sun. The work shown at Axiom will be an installation contain
 ing video, photography and elements that are made from, and refer to, 
 the set created in Rhode Island.\n\nMegan and Murray McMillan have bee
 n collaborating since 2002. Their projects begin with the building of 
 a theatrical set, acting as a stage for video and photography producti
 on. The moving compositions use an elegant, loosely narrative language
  of dolly shots, fluid camera movements, and ethereal theatrical light
 ing. The resulting video is shown as part of a related installation th
 at employs the visual and thematic elements from the original set. The
  viewer is transported, linked from the gallery installation in the pr
 esent, to the images that represent the project’s formation and conc
 ept. Each element of their projects – the set, photographic document
 ation, the installation, the filmed performance – all work collabora
 tively as well as stand on their own as individual works.\n\nMegan McM
 illan (b. 1975, Dallas, TX) has a MFA from Massachusetts College of Ar
 t and Design. Murray McMillan (b. 1973, Dallas, TX) has a MFA from the
  University of Texas at Austin and a BFA from Kansas City Art Institut
 e. The McMillans have been artists in residence in Barcelona, Los Ange
 les, Tzia and Athens, Greece and Turku and Kokar, Finland. They have e
 xhibited at the State Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, Gree
 ce, the National Museum of Art in La Paz, Bolivia and the Kunsthallen 
 Brandts Museum in Odense, Denmark. They are represented by Qbox Galler
