 works for an Old Instrument”– new compositions, and improvisations

 iano in the Sunday Parlor Concert Series, on Sunday, February 2, 2014,
  at 3:00 p.m., at the historic Loring-Greenough House, 12 South Street
 , Jamaica Plain MA.Meet Mr. Friedland at afternoon tea following the p
 rogram.    The Sunday Afternoon at the ‘Greenough House series re
 creates the atmosphere of 18th and 19th century “musical afternoons
  in the 1760 Loring-Greenough House, twice monthly, October to May. 
 Tickets are available at the door: donation $15 ($10 seniors, students

 an Friedland's music displays relentless creativity and deep musical t
 hought through a large body of works for jazz and chamber ensembles. H
 is recorded works include music for chamber orchestra, big band, strin
 gs, brass quintet, saxophone quartet, prepared piano, and various size
 d jazz groups, influenced by genres ranging from the classical avant-g
 arde to Balkan folk music. He has released two albums and performed hi
 s original music at the Lima Jazz Festival, the Cole Porter competitio
 n, on tour in Korea, and many Los Angeles and Boston venues. Friedland
 's music has been praised by acclaimed composer/performers Dave Dougla
 s, Jerry Bergonzi, Kim Richmond, and Frank Carlberg and jazz critic Sc
 ott Yanow.  In addition to being an active composer and bandleader, F
 riedland is also in demand as a freelance pianist. He has toured with 
 the Glenn Miller Orchestra and Il Divo, and recorded on several creati
 ve music projects including an album by Grammy nominated composer Kim 
 Richmond.  Friedland has studied with jazz composers Vince Mendoza, K
 im Richmond, Ken Schaphorst, and Frank Carlberg and pianists Shelly Be
 rg, Allan Pasqua, and Danilo Perez.   He has a master's degree in ja
 zz composition from New England Conservatory and a bachelor's degree i
 n jazz performance from the University of Southern California.Built in
  1760, the Loring-Greenough House, a local landmark listed on the Mass
 achusetts and National Registers of Historic Places, is located at 12 
 South Street (at the Civil War Monument) in Jamaica Plain, MA. It is o
 wned and managed by the non-profit Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club, Inc. as
  a historic house museum and site for art and music presentations. The
