SUMMARY:Green Friday: Film and Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Friday, November 20, 2009 for Green Frid
ay: Film and Dialogue, hosted by Lauren Paap held at Spontaneous Celeb
rations. This is a pilot project with the goal of providing an on-goin
g opportunity for the Jamaica Plain and surrounding communities to con
nect about environmental issues in a way that unites and empowers peop
le for positive change through movies, dialogue and guest speakers.\n\
nAs the Kerry-Boxer bill is being hotly debated and with the UN Climat
e Change Conference fast approaching it is fitting to showcase “The
11th Hour”, a feature length documentary concerning the environmenta
l crisis caused by human actions and our impact on the planet. “The
11th Hour” documents the cumulative impact of these actions upon the
planet's life systems and calls for restorative action through a resh
aping of human activity.\n\n“The 11th Hour” is appropriate for any
young adult or adult interested in exploring environmental issues and
solutions. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for socializing and networking. We
will introduce the movie at 7:00 p.m. There will be a short talk and
group discussion facilitated by our guest speaker after the film. We a
nticipate wrapping up the event by 9:45 p.m.\n\nStephen C. Nodvin, Ph.
D., Associate Professor of Natural Sciences at Wentworth Institute of
Technology is the featured speaker. Dr. Nodvin teaches courses on all
aspects of science: environmental, biology, chemistry, and physics. He
regularly gives presentations to general audiences of all kinds on to
pics ranging from global warming, energy resources, green careers, and
the intersection of philosophy, religion, and science. As a member of
Al Gore’s “Climate Project,” Dr. Nodvin travels around New Engl
and lecturing diverse audiences about the science behind climate chang
e.\n\nThe event is free and open to the public with a suggested donati
on of $5 to $10. Spontaneous Celebrations is located at 45 Danforth St
reet, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 and is accessible via MBTA Orange Line a
