SUMMARY:Green Roots Festival
DESCRIPTION:GREEN ROOTS FESTIVAL – a public celebration of environme
ntal action and an afterparty for Bike-A-Thon riders!\nJune 6th, 2010\
nBikes Not Bombs’ 3rd annual Green Roots Festival will celebrate sus
tainable urban living in a park that was only saved from becoming a hi
ghway by the grassroots efforts of local communities. Cheer heroic Bik
e-A-Thon riders (or be one yourself) as they return from their ride to
an outdoor gathering of environmental organizations, neighbors, and f
riends: featuring live street bands, food, artisans, and thoughtful co
ntent on issues of environmental sustainability. Come on out, Noon to
5:30, in the park in front of the Stony Brook T station, Boylston Stre
et, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130. See www.bikesnotbombs.org or call 617-522
-0222.\n\n\nINTERACTIVE STREET\nAt the Green Roots Festival, Boylston
Street in front of the Stony Brook T station will be closed to cars, a
nd instead will become an interactive bicycle zone. Come out and test
ride a variety of bikes, cargo-carrying bike trailers, and family cyc
ling options such as trail-a-bikes and kid trailers. Ride through a te
mporary installation of bike lane and separated cycle-track to learn h
ow these ideas are changing Boston now and can do more in the future (
separated cycle tracks are common in Europe but not well known in Amer
ica). This exhibit is especially timely as Jamaica Plain has just got
ten the approval for its first bike lanes coming in 2010.  Pin the bi
ke lane on Boston, in a game designed to bring more public participati
on into the planning of where bike lanes will change Boston next.  Bi
kes Not Bombs Bike Shop, the T-Riders Union, Walk Boston, Livable Stre
ets, and the Boston Cyclists Union will all be on the street to run th
ese activities and talk with festival-goers.\n\nEXHIBITORS\nTry out a
pedal-powered corn sheller and grinder plus other pedal-powered machin
es, brought by the MIT D-Lab and based on designs from a group in Guat
emala that receives bike shipments from BNB. Talk with environmental a
nd social justice activists and vendors, from Clean Water Action, to h
