SUMMARY:In the Groves: A Summer Solstice Journey
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning storyteller Diane Edgecomb and Celtic harper
Margot Chamberlain lead the audience on a Story and Music Journey thr
ough the enchanting groves of the Arnold Arboretum. This evening of tr
ee myths from around the world was designed specifically for the Arbor
etum and takes us to some of its loveliest spots. Stories and music ar
e drawn from the rich cultural traditions of Japan, Wales, England, Au
stralia, Czechoslovakia, Russia and Native America. The evening culmin
ates with the haunting Czech legend “The Wild Woman of the Birch Gro
ve” told among the birches of Bussey Hill at sunset. Bring a cushion
to sit on if you wish and comfortable walking shoes. The journey will
be approximately two miles on and off trails. In case of severe rain
the performance will be held indoors at the Hunnewell Building (the Ar
boretum's main building) and additional Solstice legends will be added
