  event offers the audience an opportunity to hear performances by extr
 aordinary young artists who are studying at major Boston conservatorie
 s in preparation for concert careers.Â  This season's finalists are: Â
  Alex Conway (Boston University, student of Linda Toote), Johanna Grus
 ken Â (New England Conservatory of Music, student of Elizabeth Rowe), 
 Ju Hee Kang (Boston University, student of Linda Toote), and Adrian Sa
 nborn (New England Conservatory of Music, student of Paula Robison).\n
 Â \nEach finalist will perform music by Quantz, Kalevi Aho, and Boehm.
 \nÂ \nThe James Pappoutsakis Memorial Fund and Competition, first pres
 ented in 1980, was established in 1979 in memory of James Pappoutsakis
 , flutist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops for nearl
 y four decades and beloved teacher of generations of fine musicians no
 w performing throughout the world.Â  Finalists in the annual competiti
 on are chosen (in a blind preliminary round) from among students at Ne
 w England Conservatory, Boston University, The Boston Conservatory, Lo
 ngy School of Music Bard College and The Berklee College of Music.Â \n
 Â \nThe First Prize winner will receive a cash award of $2,000 (US), a
  handmade silver head joint from Jonathon Landell (former student of J
 ames Pappoutsakis), a flute maintenance package from FluteFX, and a gi
 ft certificate from Music Espresso (a source for scores and sheet musi
 c).Â  The Winner will also be presented in a solo recital, free and op
 en to the public, on Sunday, September 7, 2014, at 3:00 pm, at New Eng
 land Conservatoryâ€™s Jordan Hall, one of the worldâ€™s premier concer
 t venues.\nÂ \nThe William H. Grass Memorial Prize (for second place) 
 will be a cash award of $1,000 (US) and a gift certificate from Yester
 day Service (a source for scores and sheet music). Other finalists wil
 l receive a gift certificate from Noteworthy Sheet Music (an online pu
 blisher of unusual music).\nÂ \nThe Competition is supported in part b
