DESCRIPTION:Sunday March 3, 2013, at 3:00 p.m.,Pentimento (Olav Chris 
 Henriksen,  archlute and cittern and Eric Haas, recorders and flutes)
  will offer a program Music from the Court of Christian IV of Denmark 
 & Norway at the Loring-Greenough House, 12 South St, Jamaica Plain MA,
  as part of the Sunday Afternoon at the ‘Greenough House parlor conc
 ert series.Christian IV ruled Denmark and Norway for 59 years, from 15
 77 until his death in 1648. Literature, art, architecture and music fl
 ourished during his reign, attracting the brightest talents from Engla
 nd (William Brade, John Dowland, Thomas Robinson and Thomas Simpson) a
 nd the Continent (Melchior Schildt, Johann Schop, Heinrich Schütz, Ma
 tthias Weckmann and others). Christian also nurtured native talent, se
 nding Danish composers (Mogens Pedersøn, Hans Brachrogge) to Italy to
  study (and produce Italian madrigals...).Pentimento will present a va
 ried program including John Dowland's famous 'Flow my tears' (Lachrima
 e pavan) with elaborate ornamentation by Johann Schop, variations on t
 he German folksong 'Gleich wie das feuer' by Melchior Schildt, dances 
 by Matthias Mercker, Simpson and Brade, songs by Brachrogge, Pedersøn
  and others, and more.     Meet the Eric and Chris at afternoon tea
  following the program.\nThe Sunday Afternoon at the ‘Greenough Hous
 e series, now in its 13th season,  recreates the atmosphere of 18th a
 nd 19th century “musical afternoons” in the 1760 Loring-Greenough 
 House, twice monthly, October to May. Tickets are available at the doo
 r: donation $15 ($10 seniors, students and JPTC members). Space is lim

 dmark listed on the Massachusetts and National Registers of Historic P
 laces, is located at 12 South Street (at the Civil War Monument) in Ja
 maica Plain, MA. It is owned and managed by the non-profit Jamaica Pla
 in Tuesday Club, Inc. as a historic house museum and site for art and 
 music presentations. The Loring-Greenough House is wheelchair accessib
