  service event with everyone you know!\n\nDear Family and Friends:\n\n
 \n\nOn Saturday, May 30, 2009 join City Year Boston for Serve-a-thon, 
 the city's premier community service event! Join 1,500 volunteers in b
 ringing new life to schools, playgrounds, vacant lots, housing develop
 ments, and parks.\n\n\n\nGIVE your time. Join the City Year youth corp
 s to demonstrate the power of service and see firsthand how one day ca
 n transform a community.\n\nBUILD a stronger community. Join thousands
  of other dedicated participants to help transform Greater Boston into
  a better place to live and grow.\n\nBELIEVE in the power of service. 
 Invigorate the City of Boston through projects such as creating outdoo
 r play areas, painting murals, planting gardens and renovating communi
 ty spaces.\n\n\n\nThere is a $30 per volunteer participation fee, whic
 h covers your service supplies, food and an event t-shirt. All additio
 nal funds raised through Serve-a-thon help the young leaders of City Y
 ear Boston make a difference in the lives of children during their yea
 r of service - through literacy tutoring, mentoring, after-school acti
 vities, school vacation programs and community service projects.\n\n\n
 \nThe Kick-Off Event and Registration will take place at Boston’s Ci
 ty Hall Plaza, and all service will be taking place in the neighborhoo
 ds of Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. Namely, Jackson Square, Egleston Squa
 re, Malcolm X Park, and the Bromley-Heath housing development.\n\n\n\n
