This was sent out this morning from Officer Carlos Lara to Residents of Jamaica Plain E-13

BEGIN:

Residents in District E-13 have reported that packages are being stolen from front porches, as well as outgoing mail found on the street, opened and contents missing.

The stolen packages have been delivered to residences and then stolen from the home. In the past, people have reported thieves following delivery trucks and stealing the packages as soon as they are dropped off in front of the residences.

We are prompting the community to take precautions when having packages delivered to their residences and to follow the preventative measures below.

It is the best policy to require a signature upon delivery of a package. Thus, request that the package be marked signature required

If you are not going to be home, ask the delivery company to hold the package at their facility/warehouse for pick up, or

Ask a family member or a trusted friend, who will be home, if you can have the package delivered to his/her residence

If it is imperative that the package be delivered to your home, consider a trusted neighbor to pick up the package as soon as it arrives

You may also have the package delivered to your workplace

Ask the company for a tracking number confirmation and when the package will arrive.

If you are at home, take custody of your packages and mail as soon as they arrive

If possible, insure your packages

If you think that your package has been stolen or lost, check outside and around your residence. You may also check with your neighbors or call the company to confirm that it was sent to you. If your inquiries have no results, file a police report with your local police department or with the post office if sent by mail

If you have any questions or information about any stolen packages, you may contact the District E-13 Community Service Office at: (617) 343-5624, or call the Criminal Investigations Unit at (617) 343-5628
Dog Walker/Sittertag:neighborsforneighbors.org,2013-09-19:1171189:Topic:1041932013-09-19T21:49:57.585ZJenn Hickeyhttp://neighborsforneighbors.org/profile/JennHickey997

I've been doing a simple 18-movement chi gung sequence called Shibashi at the big ball field at the Pond around 6:30 -7:30 am. Anyone want to join me? Give me a ring 617-522-4956 or email pam@pamelakristan.com. Would love to do it with a nice little group. You can look up the form on youtube. Easy, and can be done at any level.

I generally hate being so reactionary, but wanted to spread the word.

Twice in the past week, the same man has rang our doorbell and asked for a Mike Johnson.

Once last Monday at April 29 around 8:30 am and then again on Sunday May 5 around noon, while my husband and I were both home. The first time, I thought it was strange but didn't think too much of it. Until it happened again yesterday. Then I was like, something is going on.

Both times, I watched him from the windows, and he didn't seem to go to any other houses. He just left walking down Boylston and Dresden, respectively. He was about 5'10 to 6', average build, mid30s-mid40s, maybe (I'm terrible about age) spoke with an accent (what kind, I don't recall) and is either black or hispanic (again, details I'm fuzzy about.) He was wearing a baseball hat both times, jeans and hoodie. And a ring around this pointer finger on his left hand. (Clearly, I'm terrible about remembering details...)

After yesterday, I did call the local BPD to report this activity. Not much they could do, as he was walking around and we lost eye sight of him. BPD did send out about 4 cars in the next ten minutes to patrol the area, (so yay tax dollars at work!)

I did want to share it with other neighbors for awareness and to see if anyone else has had this happen to them in the last week or so. I searched these forums and it seems like a common enough tactic to assess whether people are home or not for breaking and entering.

Hi neighbors!

Does anyone have a suggestion for a local bank with a business checking account for our condo association? We used to have Wainwright, and although their online system was a little clunky, we appreciated their quirky charm and social conscience.

Since Wainwright was bought out by Eastern Bank, we have had nothing but problems. I only ever log onto our account once a month when I pay the bills, and it seems like every other time I log on there is a problem. Either they've upgraded their system and changed my username without my knowledge, or they've made a change so that I have to revise my browser settings (like allowing all popups -- not gonna happen!), or my password has expired so I can't log on because apparently you only have a limited time to change it. The list goes on.

I'm considering Mt. Washington Bank but don't want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire. Does anyone have experience with them? We don't need anything fancy -- just online bill pay, and occasionally we write a check.

Any other suggestions? I really don't'want to have to move to a big national bank, but when I have to spend half a day (or more) trying to get problems resolved, and the bills end up getting paid late, I may have no other choice.

Thanks,
Laura
Forest Hills Station Projecttag:neighborsforneighbors.org,2013-01-17:1171189:Topic:932042013-01-17T18:40:30.950ZJosh Chttp://neighborsforneighbors.org/profile/JoshC

Hello,

I am a graduate student studying architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology, and I am currently pursing a thesis on pedestrian friendly urban environments. My hypothetical site is situated near the Forest Hills station on a parking lot across from the T station, as well as the MBTA Bus parking lot up the road from it, and an empty lot full of brush off of Brookley Road.

My main goal is to try to make it a more pleasant place to live and work. I will be introducing new apartments/housing, more retail and office space, and a better connection from the Arnold Arboretum and Franklin Park/Forest Hills Cemetery.

Because the main goal of this project is to make that area around Forest Hills a better place I would like to find out from the community what you would like to see in those spots. What do you think could help fix that area? It can be anything from a specific type of shop or restaurant to a big park. This project will not be built, it is just a study for my thesis.

Thank You,

We've heard the sounds of chainsaws quite a bit lately due to a grand collection of over-mature trees in the neighborhood and would like to see what we can do to get replacement trees planted. Does anyone know if JPTrees is still together?

I am looking to get quotes for an intercom / door entry system (buzzer) for our three family condo association. Has anyone had this done recently. Can you recommend a company and or hardware?

We are also looking to fix or replace our front stair and to paint the exterior. We would appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks!
