JP Progressives Mayoral/At Large Council Candidates Forum

The JP Progressives is a group of active Jamaica Plain residents working together to organize our community around progressive values. Formed in March 2009, we’re working to build progressive electoral power, mobilize around issues of importance, build the progressive community, and engage the greater Jamaica Plain community in the democratic process.

Our organization is providing candidates for Mayor and At-Large City Councilor the opportunity to reach out to progressives in Jamaica Plain (and throughout the city) by being a part of the Progressive Voter Guide. We will be distributing thousands of these voter guides in Jamaica Plain by going door-to-door and handing them out at community events. The Progressive Voter Guide will also be available online and promoted heavily through social and traditional media.

That voter guide will be based on the responses to a questionnaire, and a series of public conversations with the candidates. Those conversations will allow us to follow up on the questionaire, as well as provide us an opportunity to have the public ask questions of each candidate. We are anticipating each conversation will take about 20-30 minutes.

You are invited to participate in those conversations, which are taking place on three upcoming evenings:

Wednesday, July 29th 6:30pm to 9:30pm at Doyles, 3484 Washington Street

Monday, August 3rd 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Nate Smith House, 155 Lamartine St.

Thursday, August 6th 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Nate Smith House

We hope you will join us for any or all of these conversations. It's a great chance to get to know each candidate a little more intimately, and a great way for Jamaica Plain to ensure it's presence is felt in this upcoming election.

The last in our series of three events for candidates for Mayor and At-Large City Council will be Thursday night – August 6th.

We'll be joined by Mayor Tom Menino and Kevin McCrea (both running for Mayor), along with Felix Arroyo, Tito Jackson, Bill Trabucco, Scotland Willis, and Hiep Nguyen, all running for At-Large City Council.

Please come and bring your friends, neighbors, etc! (And note that this week we're at the Nate Smith House, NOT Doyles - see address below). We will be ordering some pizzas, so if you'd like to partake in that, please bring a couple bucks to chip in.
