Adopt Julie, the puppy

Please check out these pictures of Julie and adopt her. My neighbor had a tenant move out and he left a almost a year old Labrador and pit bull mix. She is spayed.

Hi Richard thanks for your response! She sounds like a great dog/ I am going to be away for a couple of weeks so I will check here when I get back and if you haven't found her an owner I will contact you to see if I can come meet her.

Brett, I am not sure who Sam is? (i.e the salutation). Also, we choose not to contact the MSPCA b/c we are finding an owner. The kid was irresponsible and we just leave it at that.

Angie, Julie is crate trained and since dogs sleep most of the day, she will love being in her crate. Talk to any dog trainer and they will tell you the same. (She has a loving foster family right now so there are no behavioral issue). Just come see her to make up your mind.

Sam, I've met 2 pitbulls, both of them rescues. One was a very recent rescue, and high-strung (expected to be the alpha, made a lot of noise as part of that aggression, etc). She seemed to have lived a pretty tough life. But- she loved playing, cuddling with people (it's pretty funny watching a muscular, 75lb dog decide she's a lap dog), and got along well with the family's other very small dog.

The other pitbull I've met was playful and very friendly; a cute mix of shy (!) and lick-your-face-off-lets-be-friends-now-throw-the-ball-already. Both dogs were extremely athletic. They're the kind of dog that will go with you on a long run and then give you puppy dog eyes with the ball or tug rope. Not a dog for couch potatoes!

There's a great show on PBS called Woof, and the host has some tips on evaluating puppies/dogs for demeanor, and in general has lots of training tips. Check out the Woof website some time.

Angie- I don't really think it's appropriate at all to put an abandoned/rescue dog in a crate all day, especially a breed this athletic. Actually, I don't think it's appropriate for any dog.

Richard- if you haven't already, contact the police and MSPCA. Animal abandonment is a serious crime in MA (a FELONY, considered abuse!). It's been a growing problem for years (especially right after the big September move), and people need to understand that pets are a commitment, not items of convenience or fashion accessories.

Hi! Is Julie house broken? How about crate trained? I would love to meet her and consider adopting her but my husband and I work full days and would not want to leave her in our condo all day if she's going to get depressed or destroy things, etc. We can't really afford to do doggy day care, etc. right now but we've been thinking about getting a dog for a while... Thanks for any info!

Richard. I'd suggest filming Julue, uploading a video, then adding a blog post, and with the video embedded in it and a link to this group.

Sam, Julie is a Labrador and pit bull mix - I wouldn't be concerned that she is part pit bull. Any dog that is mistreated or unloved can become damaged - it isn't breed specific. This dog has been loved. Come see her!

hi richard (just friended you by accident, oops)

i was wondering what the mix is: julie looks very sweet, but i'm just a little cautious of anything with a dash of pit bull.

thanks,

sam
