    Hi All!

On October 1 at 6:30 there will be a Time Trade Circle (TTC) orientation in JP near the monument. To register contact Louisa at louisa@timetradecircle.org or call Katherine at (617)868-9855. (They like you to register before giving out the location.) More details at http://www.timetradecircle.org/join.php.

How it works: you offer a service to someone and are "paid" in the time it takes you to complete the service, including travel time (if relevant), in 15-minute increments. Normally you work this out with the recipient in advance. You can also "buy" services with time you've earned. For example, I responded to an ad looking for a blender, working or not. I had an old blender that only worked some of the time and had decided I might want to replace it. The recipient came to my office at work to pick it up. I didn't charge for travel time because I was going to work anyway, so I just brought the blender along. We set up a time to meet and made the exchange. I earned 15 minutes, and now I don't feel bad buying a new blender, because I don't need to find a way to get rid of my old one!

Unlike bartering based on dollar value, time bartering is not taxable. TTC (or maybe it was the Time Banks group) confirmed this with the IRS.

Hope to see you at orientation!
    Laura
