Hospice volunteers needed

Beacon Hospice provides comfort and dignity to those with life-limiting illnesses.

A hospice volunteer offers companionship, support, a helping hand. No matter who you are, you have something to offer hospice patients. You can make a profound difference in a person's life whether it is a 15 minute visit, writing letters, playing music, or just sitting quietly, holding a patient's hand. Volunteers play an integral role in Beacon Hospice's team approach to care that focuses on…

Be a Big Sister in a local elementary school!

For women 18 and older: This one-to-one mentoring program matches girls in elementary school with women mentors.  Matches meet once a week at the Little Sister’s school or at an after-school site.  Weekly visits are 45 minutes to an hour for one academic school year.

School-Based mentors are not teachers or tutors; they are caring and consistent friends.  They do arts and crafts, shoot hoops in the gym, read books, or simply share stories over lunch.  Each match independently…

This question is: What should we do as neighbors this spring and why?

Specifically, I am looking for examples of actions we can take, behaviors we can change,…
