Why Figment Boston 2011 Rocks

Boston feels like a real city to me now!

That's a big statement, but until recently, I've had to travel to Montreal, Miami, and NYC to enjoy the experience I had yesterday at Figment and I will again later this afternoon on the Rose Kennedy Greenway.

When I tell friends not from Boston, about Boston, I tell them it feels like a big town, mostly it's because it's walkable which I love, and but…

60,000 neighbors strong

Neighbors,

I'm setting a goal to grow our network to 60,000 neighbors strong. Bold, but possible.

Our attempt to operate 18 neighborhood social networks in 2009 and 2010 did not exactly work. I'll spare you the details...

Instead of giving up (not an option for us), we've made our JP network the citywide network and are now setting in motion our plan to become 60,000 neighbors…

What should we do as neighbors this spring and why?

Neighbors,

I'm inviting all NFN members from all neighborhoods to join this, our new citywide network.

To get things going, I'm posing the first of a series of questions (the next are up to you - add a blog post now):

This question is: What should we do as neighbors this spring and why?

Specifically, I am looking for examples of actions we can take, behaviors we can change,…

Which bank do you do business with and why?

Maureen just posed a question "does anyone use a national bank with a branch in JP that you are happy with?" in the Jamaica Plain Community Discussion ForumI'd like to expand on her question.

  • What bank do you do business with and why?
  • What else do you wish they offered such as services, extended hours, something…

Hey kid, want some candy?

Scary phrase right?

What is even scarier is that the Tobacco Industry is doing this to our young people in MA right now in the form of underhanded tobacco marketing tactics!

Are you serious? Yep, sure am.

Did you know tobacco products are being made and marketed to look and taste like "candy" and that they are being sold in plain site and as individual units to make them more affordable to young people?

Did you…

JP Members: Changes to where you post stuff

JP neighbors,

Now that we are a citywide network, you will be posting neighborhood related information in the re-activated Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Forum. Please do not add information as a blog post unless you want to start a citywide conversation or are a NFN partner making a citywide announcement.

For events, it's really important that you tag each event…

Network Update and Next Steps

Neighbors,

A couple weeks ago, we announced we'd be consolidating our network into one city wide network. So far I've accomplished the following:

  1. Made the JP network the base network and changed the website address to NeighborsForNeighbors.org
  2. Made it really easy for you to find what you are looking for on the front page with our new "Craigslist" style navigation. Thanks you to David K for the support and Guidance.
  3. Created forum categories for each…

Welcome to the new Citywide Neighbors for Neighbors!

Neighbors,

Over the weekend we migrated to the our new URL and began implementing the new navigation structure on the front page.

A technical glitch took the network offline from Saturday from about 5 pm to early this morning, thanks for your patience as that took some time to resolve.

If you have any feedback or suggestions, please leave them as a comment.

Network consolidation and the future of Neighbors for Neighbors

Dear neighbors, we've been working on this plan for the last 8 months and I'm pumped and relieved to finally be sharing it with you. Here goes...

Why we are consolidating our 18 neighborhood social networks:

  • We can't afford to continue operating all our networks
  • We don't have the capacity to manage them
  • Patch is doing a great job fulfilling the need we once served. Go Patch!
  • Our partners, like…
