Do stuff with and for your neighbors

Dear Neighbors,

Over the last seven days there has been a big increase in crime in Jamaica Plain. We need to do some organizing!

Specially, last night there were 5 incidents on and near Boylston Street.

At 6:10 and 6:36 pm on Boylston and Amory and then on Center and Forbes street two our neighbors were robbed. The suspects were described as two slim White Hispanic males in their late teen, one was wearing a red hat and grey hoody and the other had curly hair and freckles.

At 11:15, 11:20, and 11:25, three neighbors were robbed a gunpoint at the intersections Boylton and Chestnut (2), Boylston and Adelaide. The suspects are described as a black female and males in their 20's.

It's imperative to report suspicious activity calling 911 and immediate after something happens to you - even it you get away as criminals will wait for the next person to come along!

To find out what crime has been committed on your street, Please join your neighborhoods groups now and then start organizing to inform your neighbors about what happening and what you can do!

I've spoke with Captain Greland and Sgt. Krause they are going to increase patrols and asked that we:

1) Immediately call 911 to report suspicious and criminal behavior
2) Be aware of our surroundings, do not listen to music while you walk, and walk with or near groups of people.
3) Sit on our porches and keep an eye out for each other.
4) Go for walks together to create a presence in the streets and call 911 if we see suspicious activity.
5) Knock on our neighbors doors, introduce ourselves, and tell them there has been a spike in crime, and invite them to join this network.

Here is summary of crimes in the last seven days that I manually extratect from the crime reports tool in the neighborhood groups.

All of this is disturbing and important to know. Thanks very much for posting, Joe.
I wonder is it possible to get further details concerning the "Residential in Daytime" B&Es?
Since it seems to be happening quite often, it would be helpful to know some particulars.
How have the criminals been getting inside? Are they breaking down doors? Smashing windows? Cracking apart window panes?
Or, are they taking advantage of open or unlocked windows? Possibly even unlocked doors?
Either way, I know I can only do my best to safeguard my home. But I would feel better knowing more.
If any more info can be posted (or if I can be directed to a resource in the police department) about these particular crimes, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to Sgt. Krause for the update.
And thanks to everyone here who's posting info of their own. I can add that my wife had her bicycle stolen last December, torn off the wooden rail of our back porch at 3:30am on Adelaide St. We reported it then, and can say from experience that locking your bike to a wooden rail does not deter thieves.

Joe, Thanks for the posting and increasing awareness. I appreciate the tips and alert.

Thanks Joe for posting that information. We are working hard at preventing future robberies. Extra patrols have been placed in that area, both conspicuous and unconspicuous. Detectives are working with victims to try to identify suspects. Some victims have been targeted for the electronic devices in their possession. Please be vigilant to your surroundings, keep cell calls brief in nature when on foot especially during the most common times for street robberies, during the evening. See Joe's tips listed above. We have a RAD basic self defense course for women starting next week. If interested, go to www.e13bpd.com for more information.

EEEk. Thanks Joseph for ALL that you do, it is greatly appreciated. There was a car break in on Grovenor last week too. Be smart, don't leave your GPS in the car, even in the glove compartment. Also, take the harness off the windshield. (That got me in trouble on Dunster Rd a couple years back)

Hi Joseph,

Thanks for posting this. Having been one of the people who has been burgled recently, it is always helpful to remind each other to help keep an eye on the neighborhood. Chris actually posted last week about keeping an eye out for a black Econoline van with red curtains in the windows, as we believe this individual may have something to do with what happened at our house. He was also known to be living out of the van around Robinwood Avenue. If anyone sees anything, please contact the police. Thanks again Joseph!

Kelly
