Guys from APX are going door-to-door. I checked on web and found the attached alarm about them being possible scam artists. The guy has been to my house twice now and tys to get inside..."Can I see your alarm system", "could I use your restroom"?
I have no poof of wrong doing but I will be watching for them. Today he came to my door and even cupped his hands and peered though the glass....too much!
Michael - this definitely sounds of out the ordinary.
If you have not filled a Police report about this please do so asap by calling 911 and asking them to take a report, send an officer, or go down to the station on Wash and Green. It's critical to get this info into the system so officers know to look for these folks.
Also please join and post this in your neighborhoods group. Use the map to navigate to it and join on the front page.
I have spoke with our friends at E13 Police and they are aware of and documenting our concerns - as you can see by Sgt. Krauses post (under blogs).
I have verified and confirmed that APX Alarm is a real company. All APX employees will be wearing APX Alarm shirts and badge on a lanyard with a Photo ID.
Your may verify the person is legitimate calling 800-216-5232 or going to www.apxalarm.com and clicking "Rep Verification" link at the bottom page where you can type in the Badge number and you will get a picture of the rep.
Should you feel a rep is being pushy or making you feel uncomfortable - you are encouraged to call 911.
thanks for clarifying this. A young guy maybe from this company came through ballard-bardwell-hathaway-custer neighborhood yesterday as well. he did not make a good explanation: could not clearly explain who he represented, had no cards or flyers, and asked fishy questions. SOmeone here did call E13.
Thats for letting us know Steve. While it's important to call the police please make sure your neighbors call 911 - as that is where all police are dispatched from and how you access police services in Boston.
They came to my house and we all talked about it on our Yahoo! mailing list and called the police. The salesperson was the mose inarticulate person to ever come to my door. From what I gather on the web, the company hires contractors to do door to door sales and this guy is not an employee. You'd think the company would want to have better representatives in the field, instead of one that makes the public feel insecure enough to call the police.
Hi,
We were similarly approached by a guy from APX but he was wearing his proper attire and had all his credentials. This was about a year ago and we signed up for the alarm service, and honestly, it's been great. And the customer service people (in Utah) are exceptionally sweet. We know it's not a scam because we've already had the police at our door because I accidentally set off the alarm.
