Neighbors for Neighbors

Do stuff with and for your neighbors

Hi Folks,

I'd appreciate your feedback on something...

Would you also be interested in coordinating fun events for your neighbors on your streets like, yard sales, pot lucks, block parties - you know to help everyone get to know each other and weave the social fabric?

If so, why..
If not, why not....
And would it help if we helped you do it...

I ask because my guess is more people would sign up for this type of group if it were more fun and not around scary topic - Actually we have another group called Street Social Organizers - I am going to pose the similar question to them about joining this group.

My hope is that this Swine Flu will pass - but it's alway good to be prepared - so with out an imminent threat - how might we go about building a network of block captains - my experience tell me to make it fun.

Please chime in to let me know if I am on the right track here. Thanks!

Joseph

Presently I am limited as to what I am able to do, so when something comes up like needing block captains to help out in case of the flu here in JP and I know I can handle that, then I respond positively. In the future, whenever possible I would certainly volunteer to help with a block party, but I cannot do that right now. Yes, I agree doing fun, social things is a better way to get people involved.

Since presently we have a matter needing immediate people involvement, I do think reaching out to members of specific Neighbors for Neighbors groups that have recently been established is good idea. I also think if current block captains talk to their neighbors, maybe we can recruit additional people.
Hope you can reach additional people this weekend at WUTE on Saturday or Sunday, depending on the weather. Which reminds me, if it rains on Saturday and the festival is held instead on Sunday, will the WUTE After Party at Spontaneous Celebrations become the WUTE Before Party?
your experience I think is invaluable and right on, to make it fun. If people run from even what I know and have to say and don;t take in the message, the message is useless. But also, balance that with the current truth...if the swine flu wasn;t going on also, fun only to start would be fine...we may need Fun and INFORMATION togeather at this point, I strongly feel.

I have pandemic flu preparedness pamphlets that could be distributed at a 'fun' event...fun and learn event, for example only.

I had a death in the family Joe so might not call you for a few days
Laura,

I don't think we know each other. I send my sincere condolences over the recent death in your family.

Sincerely,

Barbara
Thank you Barbara,
I don;t think we have met. I don;t know many people in JP even tho I've lived here a long time.
