I want to get the word out to our neighbors in JP about the lights within the Park. After the April 21 stabbing that happened near the park on Anson St., the park lights in that area were checked, and 16 out of 31 were burned out! The bulbs have since been replaced, but due to budget cuts, the DCR doesn't have anyone to perform regular checks. That means it's more important than ever for residents to do their part. Each one of us doing a little will help all of us to be safer. Anyone who notices that a light is out should call the phone number posted on the light pole. Each pole is also labeled with an ID number. Provide that ID number when you call. (Of course if it's dark and you decide to call on your cell phone right then and there, make sure to stay aware of your surroundings!!)
Not long ago the lighting on the path between the Stony Brook T and the Brewery complex was improved, and neighbors say they now feel safer walking along there. Props go out to BPD officer Michael Santry for getting that done, and I should note that he's also the one who got the bulbs near Anson St. replaced AND got the lighting installed at the Stony Brook T station itself!
If you call about a light, you may want to post something here so others are aware and so we can track whether the bulbs get replaced (or figure out what to do if we're not getting the response we need). Including the pole # and approximate location is helpful.
