We wanted to write briefly to update you on new information we have received regarding the vacant lot, 3 Woodlawn St. To insure the property for 1 year, it would cost us $645. This would be about $53 per month. Some possible ways to pay for this:
A) Any household wishing to contribute, can let us know. Once we know how many households are interested, we can think about forming a fee-based neighborhood park association. Ideally, we would think of a $5/month association fee which would pay for insurance and incidental expenses.
B) Local business sponsorship
C) Continue to wait and see what resources the city has available.
We have contacted Councillor O'Malley's office as well as the JP representative for Mayor Menino to find out if the city will be able to donate any resources, monetary or other, such as:
- A landscape architect who could help us develop the space
- Building materials
- Plants

Woodlawn Street neighbors in attendance at a public meeting on May 7 have decided to move forward in working to convert the vacant lot at 3 Woodlawn Street into a community park.
This space would include benches, flowers and perhaps raised bed gardening. We are looking into the feasibility of planting herbs and apple trees.
We have been in touch with the Mayor's office as well as local and city organizations such as the JPNC Open Spaces Committee, the Mayor's Office, Councilor O'Malley's office and the Trust for Public Land.
We have gathered over 50 signatures from neighbors in support of this project.
Currently, we are working to create a proposal to submit to the Department of Neighborhood Development. We will work with local nonprofit organizations to develop this proposal, keeping the community informed about all choices to be made along the way via this site. In developing a proposal, we seek funding options for insurance, development and operating costs. We will share all options with you, our neighbors.
Thank you!
