Neighbors for Neighbors

Do stuff with and for your neighbors

Well John Booker came to todays group and that made us an army of two.
The DCR people were there yesterday, so their was a very minimal amount of trash.
John and i brainstormed changing the format of the group since we have such dismal numbers in attendance, will keep you posted. JP has transformed considerably since
the inception of this group, and frankly people have better things to do then pick up trash on a Saturday. I will keep you all posted on the future of Garbage Brigade, my
fear is that if it stops the neglect will increase for garbage generally in JP, and July
and August are trashy months in the neighborhood. I have said to several people
Garbage Brigade was set up to be dismantled, once the group was satisfied with the level of attention that waste was receiving and the awareness had increased then the group would stop. My feeling is that the critical mass point has been reached on this issue, either that or just the gentrification of JP has taken hold and this is a very minimal issue in all areas, Jamaica Pond and Southeast Corridor are getting DCR
attention now and the population turnover is under way . though trash is consistently an issue by todays group I can see just by the people at Ula Cafe and the amount of trash we picked up that JP is changing, whether for the better or worse is a matter of opinion. I see more strollers and more kids, so that is nice no matter who you are.
As JP goes through this transition, the fear that this area will turn into another South End may be a real one, with the vultures ready to descend. But this is a documented
socialogical phenomenon it is bound to happen. We will have a cookout soon here
if the disbanding of the group happens in earnest.

Best Wishes to all and have a nice month of June.

Rob
