Ashanti Munir was blessed with a one of kind voice. Kay Bourne from the Boston Banner newspaper once wrote, “Ashanti Munir’s pure and powerful voice brought emotional sunshine to the cloudy day.” In 1992 Ashanti won the historical .Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater in NYC. “It was the biggest musical highlight of my life!” she said flashing her million-dollar smile. Ashanti was nominated for a 2006 New England Urban Music Award. She sang background vocals on “Doo Wah Diddy” and “Girl You Know” on Leon Beal, Jr.’s Cd titled “Romantic Groove.” On March 30, 2008 Ashanti sang the national anthem for the Harlem Globetrotters at the TDBanknorth Garden in Boston. (Home of the World Champion Boston Celtics!) She followed that up by singing background vocals for Michael Buble at the Verizon Center in Manchester, NH. She is a passionate performer and has been doing so for over twenty years. She often leaves her audiences in awe wondering how they’ve never heard of this supremely talented lady before. Her musical influences are Whitney Houston, Erykah Badu, Anita Baker, Nancy Wilson, Gladys Knight and Regina Belle. July 26, 2008 will mark 5 months since Ashanti Munir’s debut CD titled Balance was introduced to the world. The 9-track set was released via the internet (CDBaby.com) on February 26, 2008. Ashanti has gone from being an unknown artist to being known internationally in just 5 months! From the very beginning DJs around England were playing several tracks simultaneously. “Lovers And Friends”, “Follow Your Heart” and the title track “Balance” all received equal airplay. On March 21, 2008 the leadoff single “I’m Staying Home Tonight” was introduced via the Soul Heaven Show on Starpoint Radio in England. As of today it is still going strong on Solar Radio in London as well as stations all around the world! It looks like the “Steppers” in England will keep it going throughout the summer of ’08! The CD “Balance” remained at 4 on the Solar Radio charts from May 19, 2008 until June 24, 2008 and in the Top 10 until June 26, 2008! Ashanti was recently interviewed live on air on June 16, 2008 by Gary Spence at Solar Radio. The CD “Balance” is receiving rave reviews internationally! Barry Towler of Soulchoonz Promotions in London said “If you love Lalah Hathaway as a vocalist then Ashanti Munir is for you!” Gordon Stone from England’s “Soulwalking” said “I have placed the woman’s new set along with the probable album of 2008!” Jorg Michael Schmitt of Sonic Soul in Germany and Sergio Scarpelli of JazzMasters in Brazil also wrote glowing reviews about Balance!
