After Jason’s horrific but liberating death, the Argonauts spent years in search of a vocalist. While the group was vacationing in the picturesque midwestern United States, Orpheus met Jesus in an otherwise empty bar. Over the din of old Whiskeytown records emanating from a beat-up old jukebox, Orpheus told Jesus about the trials and travails the Argonauts had experienced over their time together, emphasizing the recent drought of worthy vocalists. Orpheus knew Jesus was a promising candidate from his first words "You know, I love this record, but ’Matrimony’ totally blows," so when Jesus offered to come practice with the band during their stay, Orpheus was quick to accept the offer. He also added a request to borrow fifty dollars, which Jesus declined. Despite the rebellious nature of Jesus, his politics are still shaped by the cruel, narrow-minded libertarianism of his father. Fortunately for the Argonauts, Jesus is a powerful lyricist with a distinctive voice that fits the old compositions of Hercules, Tiphys, and Orpheus perfectly. Both the emotional depth and range contained in the compositions of Jesus are of particular note, making them a far cry from the boorish, fleece-obsessed writings of Jason.
