About The First Third The First Third started its life the day two new friends decided to form a foot stomping soul band in the tradition of Stax/Volt greats like Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Sam and Dave. Several months and countless cigarettes later, the duo found themselves playing bluegrass and country rock tunes mixed in with the rhythm and blues they first came together to play. Setting their sights on a broader goal of becoming a great American roots musical unit, The First Third was born.
