Neighbors for Neighbors

Do stuff with and for your neighbors

Dear Neighbors,

My door bell just rang with a woman from "Just Energy" claiming that if I showed her my energy bill she could let me know if I "qualified" for green energy. I refused but took her literature to look up the company. Apparently this is a company that is involved in a multitude of lawsuits for promising lower energy bills and green energy but is actually just making you sign on to pay more and then charging you to switch out of it. Don't do it! Here are some links I found.

Please call 911 to report this asap. They will send a car out, not everyone will be as smart as you were. Thanks for posting Belle!
Ok, cool, they are sending a car out to check her out.
Awesome. Great work!
Out of curiosity I Googled Just Energy. They have offices in Buffalo, Houston and Canada. Checked BBB in Buffalo, they have an F rating and just in that office have 116 complaints against them. Not someone I'd let into my house..
I'm doing a study about Just Energy pricing in comparison to NStar's Basic Service. Anyone who has signed up for Just Energy and is willing to tell me the "generation charges (per kWh), please contact me.
thanks,
Loie Hayes

Hi everyone, I just want to put it out there that this Just Energy thing has nothing to do with the Renew Boston program: http://www.renewboston.org/residents.htm.  Renew Boston is a program where Boston residents can get free home energy assessments and then get discounts on insulation and air sealing through stimulus funds, which is a legit way to save both money and energy.  Loie and I work for the Boston Climate Action Network and received a grant from Renew Boston, so have been putting flyers in some JP mailboxes and, at times, going door to door on blocks where we know a lot of neighbors.  More info on our website, too: www.bostoncan.org.  Please let people know about this distinction if they are confused.

Hello.  I work as a producer at channel 4 news and I'm working on a story about Just Energy.  I'm interested in speaking to people who have been contacted by this company.  If you're willing to talk to me....please call 617-787-7107

Thanks much.

A guy just came by our house.

So, I did sign up for Just Energy about 2 months ago and actually like it alot more than Nstar.  I guess they are new to Boston.  Personally I don't know why everyone is so angry, my bill is lower and the service is fine.
Well, let's hope it stays that way. Based on their reputation (run by former Enron execs, already received an "F" from the BBB in Buffalo, accused of deceptive business practices, see links in original post), they seem to be a suspect company at best. But who knows? It's a new year; maybe they turned over a new leaf.
