Neighbors for Neighbors

Do stuff with and for your neighbors

I spotted a very large Hawk perched on a neighbors old television antenna on the roof this morning between Estrella and Motzart streets. It ws the first one I have seen this far from Arnold Arboretum or the Common.

It was a pleasant sight to see and hear. The hawk was gone by mid-morning

Cool. Was it reddish. I saw one two years ago near the brewery!
It didn't have much red. I tried to see if it was a red-tailed hawk, but the light in the sky was directly behind it...so I couldn't tell.

It was cool! It made my whole year!.

I saw a red-tailed hawk last summer near BU. It was soaring over the parking lots behind Star Market and the adjoining BU parking lot. Low enough to know that it was a red-tailed hawk and not a turkey vulture, which are fairly common sights when driving in metropolitan Boston.

I also remember a few years ago when a red-tailed hawk was sitting on the awning of the Chinese restaurant opposite JP Licks on Centre Street, dismembering a pigeon, with feathers flying everywhere. There was a group of spectators (including me) standing in front of JP Licks, sort of in awe of seeing this spectacle of nature up close.
