Hi, all:
Just wanted to alert everyone to a recent car break-in. I live at 186 Amory Street, and we have a parking lot in what used to be our backyard. On Wednesday night, my downstairs neighbor came home to find that someone had actually come all the way down the driveway, into the lot, and smashed in the front passenger side window of her car. All for two rolls of quarters. Nothing else was taken.
The police officer who came to take the report told my neighbor that there had been two robberies earlier near the Stony Brook T.
I'm leaving my car unlocked. The thieves are welcome to the used MadLibs and rotting Pirate Booty!
Two rolls of quarters is a major score for someone breaking in to cars. The Boston Police Dept cannot underscore the importance of not leaving anything in your vehicle EVEN IF YOU THINK IT HAS LITTLE TO NO VALUE! This includes all electronics, loose change, gym bags, cd's, sports equipment...anything really! The problem with car breaks is not only a citywide problem but a regional problem as well.
I met briefly with Kate, the owner of Ula Cafe yesterday, and handed out whistles to their employees. I am available to meet with any group interested in getting more involved in the safety and security of themselves and their neighborhood.

Carolyn is totally right about the major score. A car with nothing in view is the only way to go.
I park in a kinda off the beaten track driveway off a dead end street and have my share of shady characters cutting through towards stony. I've found it's beneficial to be a part of the street scene, that is keeping curtains open when I'm home, lights on when I'm not, being aware of the street pedestrian traffic, walking in the neighborhood and knowing the other people who live around me. All this makes for an atmosphere that is less conducive to unwanted activities.
