Neighbors for Neighbors

Do stuff with and for your neighbors

Myself and my neighbor Mary Ellen, were planning to organize a BLOCK party on July 19th. It would be great if we could have it on Copley Street.
How do we get the permit to block off Copley Street? Does anyone know? Joe? Betsy?

Let me know am I will organize it!
Thanks,
Lori

Hi Lori! Great idea!

I'm doublechecking with Colleen Keller, the Mayor's rep for JP, on the permitting and I'll get back to you! Hope you're enjoying the beautiful day!
Thanks Betsy,
Hope you are too!
Hi Lori!

Here's some info about setting up a block party:

If you just want to do a regular block party, all you would need is a street closure permit from the Parks Department. The link is attached below:

If you're having amplified music, but no DJ, you probably don't need a Special Events Permit. If you do have a stage and a DJ, you'd need to go through Special Events/Licensing. Their respective numbers are 635-4447 and 635-4165.

If people are grilling, I would tell them to keep their BBQs on their own property, to avoid having to get a fire permit from the Fire Department.

The JP contact person for the city is Colleen Keller, Office: 617-635-4855
Fax: 617-635-3498

She's incredibly helpful and responds pretty quickly to questions.

Hope this helps! Take care!
awesome thanks for your help!
I haven't gotten much response yet from neighbors so I'm not sure we will do it.
A few people already said they would be away.
I'll have to go door to door I think to see who would be up for it.

I'll keep you posted!

Thanks,
lori
