Neighbors for Neighbors

Do stuff with and for your neighbors

I'd like to meet some of my cyclin' neighbors, get out on the road bike for some miles, and get this group rolling!  We have almost 100 people in the group, after all :)

I had a random idea: why not do a friendly, social ride to give this group a kick in the pants, and also serve as an introduction to group riding for those who are new-ish to group rides?  Then (more) folks will be comfy joining in on future activities, know some people in the group already, etc.

We can meet somewhere in the middle of JP (Maybe JP Licks, for some warm beverages?), introduce ourselves and go over some basics on a quiet street for those who would like to (more experienced riders can speak up and help with tips and suggestions), and then decide on where we'd like to go (so, some route suggestions would be welcome, with an eye towards roads that are either quiet or have a good shoulder, for example.)

Suggestions on what we could talk about/demonstrate/practice:

-what items to bring on a group ride
-preparing your bike itself
-group communications (calls and hand signals)
-how to ride your bike in a group

Who's game?  I could possibly do Sunday morning instead, but it's going to be much hotter during the day.

I would love to be involved in something like this; but tomorrow is not a good day for me. Sunday would be better, but maybe I'll just get in on the next one?
Let's see what the interest level is from other neighbors and go from there! You're right, it is short notice.

Alternative: if anyone is interested in a ride, I'm pondering a ride with the CRW out in Wellsley (Willet Pond ride.) Company would be welcome, relaxed pace.
