A Special Meeting to Assist Hi-Lo Employees - Friday January 28th – help spread the word
With the rapid closing of the Hi-Lo market the City is making every effort to reach all employees who are losing their jobs. If you know an employee who worked there, please make sure they’ve heard about this important meeting.
The Mayor’s Office, partnering with the State, has organized a special meeting to assist Hi-Lo employees directly connect with a wide range of unemployment and reemployment services, including: registration for Unemployment Insurance; explanations of workers’ rights and benefits; information about health insurance; food stamps; EITC; fuel assistance; info about how to link up with training and education opportunities; and job placement services.

I'm sharing the following message "JPNDC has scheduled a planning and strategy meeting about the Hi-Lo/Whole Foods issue for this Wednesday, January 26th, 6:30PM @ the Blessed Sacrament retail space located at 363-365 Centre St. The focus o...f this meeting will be to strategize on ways to support the current Hi-Lo employees and residents, mainly Latinos, who shop at Hi-Lo. We will also plan for the upcoming larger community meetings that are being planned including one by the JP Neighborhood Council. The meeting will be conducted in Spanish and we will have an interpreter there for English-only speakers and we will also provide child care. We are reaching out to other organizations to help with this meeting. Our outreach for this meeting is focused on residents and merchants who are impacted by the Hi-Lo closing as well as JP allies. As you know and understand, our main concern is creating a space in which folks are comfortable in sharing their views and concerns so we hope that our allies attend the meeting but respect this process."

Wow, this is amazing that a city would get involved in this issue. I hope folks realize that Boston is special! Makes me feel less frustrated that my property taxes just went up! :)
