Fire at 83 Paul Gore St Jamaica Plain

There was fire at 83 Paul Gore St in Jamaica Plain last night, everyone is ok, but it looks like people will not be allowed to live in the building until it is all fixed up again which will take months.  They have places to stay for the next few days, but the most immediate need is to find rental apartments for everyone, so that they can get their lives back together.  I think there is just one couple by themselves and everyone else has a baby or cats or dogs, so if you…

Where Neighbors for Neighbors Members Live and How Long You've Lived There

At work, I've been exploring cool tools to help transform raw data into actionable information.

I used TagCloud.com to visualize where our members live and how long they've live there.

As you can see the majority of members live in Jamaica Plain, followed by Roslindale, and then Charlestown. Note this data was is pulled from when members first signed up - and people move around.…

Coyote Sighting on Cranston and Paul Gore Streets

Around 9:30 am on Easter Sunday morning, a coyote was spotted at the top of the Cranston Street near Sheridan Street. When it saw a person, it fled down the cliff to Paul Gore Street, where it was sighted a second time.

Jack Chapin from the Massachusetts Environmental Police came out to investigate.  Chapin talked with the person who had seen the coyote and concerned Cranston Street residents.  Here is a summary of the information he shared with us.

The eastern coyote…

Carrying on for Billie Hockett

Billie Hockett was a mainstay of the Boston-area Celtic community. I had the pleasure of assisting her with several Music for Robin concerts she produced at the Emerson Umbrella in Concord and St. John's Methodist Church in Watertown. She was probably best known to many for her untiring work producing a weekly events listing (the 2/22/10 edition is viewable in the original blog, see link at end).

Billie passed November 7, 2011 but lives on in our hearts and music and, for some 350 of…

You can make a profound difference in a person's life whether it is a 15 minute visit, writing letters, playing music, or just sitting quietly, holding a patient's hand.
