April means Earth Day! How are you celebrating?
Mass Energy's Facebook has some ideas!
Margaret Mead's famous quote comes readily to mind: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
At Mass Energy we're always thinking about the power of a large group of people to help a small group of people make change. Our New England GreenStart and New England Wind Fund programs have taken the contributions of 7,500 caring members and funneled them toward the actions of smaller groups-and those groups have built wind turbines and placed solar panels up in their hometowns of Medford, Princeton, Scituate, Hull, Dorchester, Roxbury, and so on, creating skilled and well-paying jobs along the way. So let us add to Ms. Mead's sentiment, never doubt the power of paying it forward.
Earth Day Contest:
Since small groups are so influential, Mass Energy is having an Earth Day contest. We know many of you are thinking of Earth Day resolutions to do something healthy for your community and your earth in the coming year, and we also know that it's easier to stick to an Earth Day commitment when it is public!
In that spirit, we encourage you to share your commitment on our Facebook page. Then, get your friends to check it out. The people who get the most friends to "like" their commitment on the Mass Energy Facebook by Earth Day (April 22nd) will get a grand prize, and those who have ten or more like their commitment will get one too. We like collective action as much as we like collective buying power!
In light of last year's coal-mine disaster, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, a tsunami-incited nuclear disaster, and upheaval in several oil-rich nations, this year's energy report card has been depressing, but we are doing all we can to change the course of the future, and you're a part of that.
What else will you do?
Happy Earth Month! See you on Facebook!
Not on Facebook? Email your idea to eunice@massenergy.org and we will post it for you!
