Organizing for America, the successor organization to Obama for America, is building on
the movement that elected President Obama by empowering communities across the
country to bring about our agenda of change.
In 2008, millions of Americans got involved in the political process — many for the first time — to fight for a new kind of politics and a better future for our country. Those voices enabled a new
beginning — a chance to pursue the real world change our country needs. Now it's time for our movement to rise again, stand with President Obama, and make that promise a reality.
Unlike the early days of the Obama campaign, Organizing from America now has a strong grassroots foundation of staff in all 50 states, and volunteer leaders and organizers in every part of the country. But the reason these volunteers are organizing for the midterm election now -- an unprecedentedly early involvement -- is to strengthen that organization into a smoothly-running
operation by fall.
It’s up to us to ensure that President Obama can continue forward with his reform agenda. Maintaining a Democratic majority in Congress is crucial to ensuring that Obama’s reform agenda can be implemented. That agenda includes changing the way Wall Street works, passing
energy legislation that reduces our dependence on oil and develops new alternative sources of energy, fixing our broken education system, and ensuring that the recently passed health care reform is implemented in a fair and equitable fashion. Republicans on the right, tea party activists, conservative talk show hosts, corporate lobbyists and big money are all mobilizing to derail
Obama’s agenda. We need to counteract these reactionary forces of change with
our own people power.
Between now and the mid-term elections, OFA will be concentrating on the following tasks:
