Volunteer as an Art Teacher’s Aide in classes, some opportunities after-school, some during the school day, in programs we hold in Boston Public elementary schools. Grades K-8. Class size: 13 maximum. Class length: 1 to 1-1/2 hour plus set-up, clean-up, prep. This is a perfect opportunity for those with potential interest in becoming art teachers. You'll learn in practice about teaching, project planning, classroom management, interaction with schools, and more. Hours depend on our particular contracts at the time and your availability. Schools are in Jamaica Plain, Dorchester, Roslindale, Roxbury and the South End.
This opportunity remains open throughout the year, with openings each semester. We are happy to complete school paperwork for internships and/or credit.
The Eliot School offers classes and workshops in arts and fine crafts to people of all ages. A full-service wood shop, sewing room and all-purpose art room make up our 1831 schoolhouse in Jamaica Plain. In addition, our School Partnership program sends art and woodworking teachers out to selected public schools in Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, Roxbury and the South End. We teach 1,300 adults and 400 children in our schoolhouse each year, plus 800-1,000 children through our School Partnership Program. More information at http://www.eliotschool.org
