I am confused.

I was under the impression that the old site had been made inactive and all activity was to be made in the new one. Now it appears there will be some kind of a transition period, when both will be active?

To which site do I post my 2/29, 3/1 and 3/15 events?

As far as I am concerned, the new site is functioning nominally. Unless you know of technical issues, porting should be immediate.

2. I found that old site's blog simple and straight foward. The new site's blog will be be reserved for N4N events, and forums will be used for events and community news. This is fine in concept, but I see three shortcomings:

A. The forums do lack the HTML and picture loading functionality of the blog (however, attachments are allowed).
B. Correct me if wrong, but I believe tags are not available in the forums.
C. Will outside news miners like http://outside.in/Jamaica_Plain_Boston_MA be able to read and forward to its subscribers posts to the forums as it had been able to do to the blog in the "old" website?
Hey Jeff,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Lets me explains what's going on:

When this transition is complete when you go to www.neighborsforneighbors.org you will arrive at our new "Organizational" landing site. On this site there will have three options:
1) Join the Jamaica Plain Neighbors Network where you will be able to meet their neighbors your actual street.
2) Be taken to this network (or one in the neighborhood you live if we expand) the Neighbors for Neighbors (Jamaica Plain) Organizing Network.
3) Be able to read our "organizational" blog. The organizational blog will contain all historical blog posts for our current blog (yes old links will work too) however the big difference is only Kerrin and I will be posting updates about NFN "organizational" news to that blog. You, me, and everyone else will be posting our events and such to this network.

In regards to the shortcomings:

A. The forums do lack the HTML and picture loading functionality of the blog (however, attachments are allowed).
Not true you may paste HTML and load picture - See the last icon above.
B. Correct me if wrong, but I believe tags are not available in the forums.
Correct however this will be coming - see http://networkcreators.ning.com
C. Will outside news miners like http://outside.in/Jamaica_Plain_Boston_MA be able to read and forward to its subscribers posts to the forums as it had been able to do to the blog in the "old" website.
Yes, when I get chance to register this site.

Thanks for your great questions. Please let me know if any of my responses need clarification.
Just one. Timing.

Are both sites running in parallel?
To which do we post for maximum exposure? Or should we post to both for some time?
When do we cut over to the new?
Jeff,

For maximum exposure please post to both. It looks like the cut off will may be this Friday. That is if all goes as planned.
I need to make a new post. Did this happen?
Jeff, we are very close. Just working out some final details. Looks like tomorrow. Do not that on the new blog - only NFN post will be allowed. But we will be inviting all members to join this group.
Publicity-related.....Is the N4N going group inactive? Should we put some effort into rejuvenating it?
Hi Jeff,

I never really took off. I think of the Going group and Facebook groups as recruiting tools to get people to join this network but that is not clear at the moment. We need to put some more thought into that. Any suggestions?
Post events here, then parallel post to going with a link here.

The best way to make a going group visible is to have activity, else it slips into the back pages.
Thanks Laura,

We will be sending out an email with how to's when we launch this. We are VERY close.
