Neighbors for Neighbors

Do stuff with and for your neighbors

In attendance from BPD:
- Lt. Cruz, E13
- Sgt. Krause, E13
- Carolyn MacNeil, Neighborhood Watch

Members from the following streets:
- Sheridan
- Chestnut
- Forbes
- Beecher

BPD's Recommendation:
- Awareness
- Do not show valuable
- Walk in middle of the street
- Women - Take self-defense course

CRIME:
- Muggings are up
- Everything is lower

ACTION Steps we discussed:
- Leafleting - get safety prevention material out
- Whistle Distribution - get whistles into the hands of our neighbors
- Make a movie about what you should do if you think you're about to get mugged
- Street Reps - Get two people per street to get the information out
- Safe Walk - hand out our flyers at the T again
- Take cab from Forest Hills - Cheaper than downtown - safer than walking late a night
- Front Porch - Turn on the lights on - make sure all are on.
- Decal Distribution - distribute we watch out for each other decals
- Start a neighborhood watch/existing groups/mentoring - Contact Carolyn
- Use twitter to sms muggings

When every one comes back we will pick up and make these ideas happen!

Thanks to everyone who came out. Go Neighbors!

Thanks, Joseph, neighbors and E-13.
This is a big concern for me living in this part of JP. I have a commitment on Monday evenings so I was unable to attend this meeting, but would like to help in putting some of these steps into action.
*I've taken and organized RAD trainings with the Virginia Tech police when I was in college. I still carry my whistle from that training (Its been TEN years--dang, I'm old). :-)
*I will talk with my downstairs neighbors and landlord about our porch light. The switch to control the porch light is INSIDE the 1st floor apartment, only accessible to them! SILLY!
*I'd be willing to distribute/post decals.
*I have a crazy schedule, so I don't think I would be a good candidate for street rep. But know lots of Sheridan peeps and could ask around.
*I am also on twitter @erinberryscott so follow me!!!

Thanks friends and neighbors!

Have a safe and Happy New Year!!

Erin and Stephen Scott
(friend my husband, too!)
