Neighbors for Neighbors

Do stuff with and for your neighbors

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that my car window was smashed in some time between Friday 5:00pm and Saturday 8:00am. Nothing was taken and whoever did it left behind the rock they used to break the glass.

I reported it to the police who quite frankly could have cared less if I filed a report. I asked the officer what was being done about all the recent car break ins and muggings and I got a long blank stare. From his non-response I have the sense that nothing is being done.

What the hell?

So sorry about the car, Gina. Over the past few years we've had our car broken into a few times, so I know the frustration that results from that. You didn't do anything wrong and your window got all busted up.

A recent Globe article highlighted that JP is one of the few areas in the city to have an increase in muggings...so the city is obviously aware of it, the question is why specifically our region is seeing an uptick in this type of crime. We're up 37% from the last calendar year. I think that contacting your elected officials and asking them what the police response has been to this increase is a good way of getting that information, if you've been unable to access it any other way. It also shows the mayor and other elected officials that JP is an active political community, which is important. These people have been elected to represent you and your interests, it's important for them to understand what your frustrations are and important for you to understand whether or not these officials are being responsive to your concerns.

Email them and ask them what steps are being taken to address the localized increase in muggings. After all, the residents of JP are not the only ones who should be asked to be more pro-active and aware.
Sorry to hear about your car. Someone took an iPod from my car on Paul Gore St. I tried to report it, but was told I can only do it in person at the station, and never made it down there--I know that's terrible. Hopefully bringing more attention will discourage people from doing this.
