Community supported agriculture - looking for share

Hi,

My husband and I were planning to buy a share for a CSA this year (with pick-up in JP), but it appears that we are too late and all the CSAs that offer shares with JP pick-up locations are already sold out. We are now wondering whether someone who's had more luck than we might be interested in splitting a share with us. Also, if you signed up for a share but changed your mind in the meantime (because you're moving, etc.), please let us know.
We'd also be grateful if you could direct us to a farm that still has shares available (we checked RedFire, Stillman's, and FoodProject, and they're all sold out).

Hey Kate, could you tell me what CSA stands for?
Sure- sorry!
CSA stands for "Community Supported Agriculture".
Some farms offer produce subscriptions, where buyers receive a weekly or monthly basket of vegetables, flowers, fruits, etc. The produce is locally grown and often organic.
A CSA is a way for the food buying public to create a relationship with a farm and to receive a weekly basket of produce. By making a financial commitment to a farm, people become "members" (or "shareholders," or "subscribers") of the CSA.
Cool thanks. One suggestion. I would edit you discussion and change the title so it will catch more peoples interest.
powisset farm in dover still has shares. no delivery to jp, but worth checking out, only a 20-30 min drive depending on the time of day. #508.785.0339.
Hi Melanie,

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, though, driving (at least on a regular basis) is somewhat out of the question because we don't have a car and renting a car every week to pick up a share would make the whole thing too expensive (and also environmentally less optimal). Thanks anyway, though!
Hi Kristina,

In case you can't locate a CSA share, an alternative is Boston Organics, which delivers weekly or biweekly to your door. It's not the same as a CSA, as the items are sourced from many different suppliers, and not all are local. But it's all organic and available year round.

We have subscribed to the service off and on depending on our eating habits, and have been happy with the quality of the produce.
