Do stuff with and for your neighbors

What are your suggestions on dealing trauma from violence?

Neighbors,

Violence is traumatic and it's important that we take really good care of ourselves and each other at a times like this. At the community reflection meeting following the shooting on Boylston Street last month, we learned the importance of drinking lots of water and avoiding stimulants and depressants like sugar, caffeine, and alcohol. The reason behind this is to create a stable and level chemical level (or something like that) in our body as we begin to process the thoughts and emotions that coincide with violence.

The Boston Police Department Homicide Unit has links to helpful resources.

Let's discuss:
  • What suggestions do you have to help deal with trauma?
  • What support resources are you aware of in JP to get help if you or someone you know needs some support?

We live around the corner from Same Old Place and were unable to park at our car last night because our street was blocked off when we arrived home. My 9 year old who attends the Curley School is traumatized. She is pleading with me to move, but I told her you can escape violence in America. Too many people have guns!

I'll e-mail her teacher and principle make them aware that other children who live in the neighborhood are probably traumatized too.
