Do stuff with and for your neighbors

Hello All - Our foster daughter's older sister bought two tiny little cute turtles in Chinatown at the Moon Festival, realized that no, she couldn't take them to college, and sort of dumped them on us.

It turns out that they are red-eared sliders - surprisingly smart and lively pets - but we really don't have room for them. We bought a 10 gallon tank for them, but they have already outgrown it. Full disclosure: these aquatic turtles live for 30 years and grow to be the size of dinner plates.

Any turtle enthusiasts out there who would like to take them on? Anyone with a sun room wanting turtles?

Thanks for the information. Even though I would love to take them I don't think I can, so sorry - I worry I am gone too much to properly care and love the turles. I hope they find a good home!

Hello Anna-

The water will get stinky if it's not changed, but the turtle themselves are not smelly. They are messy eaters, so some suggest putting them in a smaller tank to feed them to keep their big tank clean. They don't mind being handled and don't bite.

A water filter would help a lot (we haven't gotten one yet, so we change the water once a week).

They do need to be fed everyday, so someone would have to do that when you travel. Their food is easy to find at any pet store, not expensive. They also like fish and some veggies.

tell me more, do they smell? I may be interested but I travel a lot so I worry about caring for pets, especially any who may live for such a long time.
