Event Description

What better way to properly warm up a house than with a house concert? Help kick off the Fall semester and come listen to some great traditional Irish music on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14TH at 8 PM at my house in Jamaica Plain. The performers consist of myself on fiddle, Joey Abarta on the Irish pipes, and Asher Perkins on button accordion. Read below for more information regarding the musicians!

There will be a suggested donation of $12 at the door, but if you can't afford that, then whatever you can contribute would be fantastic!

Directions:

Take the T to the Orange Line and get off at Stonybrook. Walk left out the entrance and take a left onto Amory st., a right onto School st., left onto Copley st., and my house is on the left. Easy squeezy.

Wanna drive over instead? There's plenty of FREE parking on the street!

The performers are:

A native Rhode Islander, Armand Aromin has been playing Irish music since his early teens. He has been fortunate enough to learn much of his music from renowned musicians Jimmy Devine and Patrick Hutchinson, as well as drawing influences from the playing of Julia Clifford, Lucy Farr, Bobby Casey and Vincent Campbell. In 2010, Armand received 1st place at the Mid-Atlantic Fleadh in Senior Fiddle, and went on to compete as a finalist at the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Cavan, Ireland.

California’s Joey Abarta is a multi-instrumentalist performing on the uilleann pipes and tin whistle, as well as the bodhrán and other percussion instruments. He has been instructed by many master musicians in the tradition of Irish piping, studying his trade living in the United States as well as Ireland. By the age of twenty-five, Joey has already traveled to most of Continental Europe, the United States, Canada and Asia, and become an All-Ireland Champion placing second at the Fleadh, Cheoil na hÉireann (The World Championships of Irish Music) for his performance on the uilleann pipes.

11-time Midwest Fleadh winner, Asher Perkins, is one of the few young button accordion players within the USA. Coming from a musical family in Detroit, Michigan, Asher, along with his parents and sister, have had the opportunity to tour with their music throughout the US and Canada, as the band Finvarra’s Wren. Picking up his first accordion at the tender age of 7, Asher’s unique, creative style of playing is likely a result of being a self-taught musician, taking influence from other instruments such as the fiddle and uilleann pipes. Often remarked upon is his uncanny level of energy, demonstrated in fast-paced sets of tunes, often lasting 15 minutes or more.
