Meravelha, the medieval music group, presents it’s first full-length concert, “Daydreams and Desires,” featuring repertoire pulled from some of the most delightful music of Medieval France, with haunting melodic lines and eloquent lyrics from some of the best poets and storytellers of the era, at the Loring-Greenough House, 12 South St, Jamaica Plain MA, as part of the Sunday Afternoon at the ‘Greenough House parlor concert series, on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
Meravelha was formed in 2012 for the purpose of bringing rarely-performed medieval music to a wider audience through live performance. The name Meravelha translates as “marvel” or “wonder” and was taken from the song “Non es meravelha s’eu chan,” by Bernard de Ventadorn, a 12th century troubadour. Members of the group are Teri Kowiak, voice, Jaya Lakshminarayanan, voice and harp, Josh Schreiber Shalem, vielle, Catherine Stein, voice, Tim Whipple, voice. For more information, visit www.meravelha.com.
The Sunday Afternoon at the ‘Greenough House series, in its 13th season, recreates the atmosphere of 18th and 19th century “musical afternoons” in the 1760 Loring-Greenough House, twice monthly, October to May. Tickets are available at the door: donation $15 ($10 seniors, students and JPTC members). Space is limited; reservations are suggested—call 617-524-3158 or email lghouseconcerts@aim.com.
Meet Teri, Jaya, Josh, Catherine and Tim at afternoon tea following the program.
