Robin Maxfield successfully home schooled her 17 year old daughter Victoria from Kindergarten through 6th grade in a cooperative home school group of five families. Victoria then went to Boston Latin and will be attending the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy for her senior year. Her second daughter Violet has been in a private school until 5th grade and will be homeschooling next year in an all girl cooperative made up of 4 families organized by Robin.
In this workshop all of your questions will be answered!
Why consider homeschooling?
What is the time commitment?
How does one form a homechooling cooperative?
How does socialization work?
What are the legal requirements?
What are the resources?
How will my child get into a school later?
How will I know that my child is up to speed with the Massachusetts Curriculum?
Ask questions directly to homeschooled children and meet other parents who are considering this option.
* The word 'home schooling' is used here because most people are familiar with the term. We will actually be discussing 'unschooling' which is child led learning with adult facilitation. It is philosophically different in that the children direct the learning and the adults support them. Many home schoolers try to imitate school at home and since our education system is failing miserably we won't be trying to do that!
