JP Ultimate Frisbee has hit critical mass! After some discussion, there seemed to be a couple of people interested in doing something Saturday morning. It'll be a balmy 40 degrees!
ALL levels are welcome, and you do not need to be a member of the JP Ultimate Frisbee group. We'll start out just tossing around, working on throws; if you're a beginner, we'll help you with throwing technique and start explaining some of the rules of Ultimate.
If we get enough for a game (6-8 people), we'll start one- and this is a game where sharing tips and coaching others will be encouraged unless you specifically say you'd rather not have it (the goal of this group is to both help others play better, and also learn from others!) If a TON of people show up, English High's field is plenty big enough for several games.
Experienced players who would like to try mentoring/coaching a beginner player are welcome. Just want to play? That's OK too- as long as you're cool with marking up with someone of similar skill or playing to roughly their level.
For those who are not used to playing in the cold / playing Ultimate, some suggestions:
-Bring water and FOOD. Easy to digest, sugary for best quick energy. Don't skip breakfast!
-Dress in layers, using non-cotton clothing. Nike and Under Armor sell cold-weather base layers (available from TJMaxx sometimes on the cheap, especially off-season). Fleece is also good; so is wool. Many of us wear a normal winter jacket too, and ditch it and some layers as we start playing.
-Gloves: catching a frisbee with cold hands can hurt a bit; the disc is harder, etc. Cheap leather dress gloves that fit snugly are perfect for the job, but any relatively snug glove is a step up from bare hands.
Afterwards, if there is interest, we'll hit up Doyles or some place like Fiore's.
Parking is free at the field.
