Break Ins and Porch Robberies in JP and Roslindale

Just FYI, there have been some recent break-ins and porch robberies in JP and Roslindale. My thoughts on it:At a  minimum, offer to take your neighbors' packages inside when they aren't there and ask if they'll do the same. Or get a post office box to have packages delivered to.Use rods or window stops (sold at hardware stores) to make it harder for someone from the outside to open your window while not making it that much harder for you to open the window from the inside should you need…See More

Missing Person!-Josiah Simmons of Video Underground

If you have ever been to Video Underground, you know what Josiah Simmons looks like. He's kind of tall and skinny, and I've seen him on bike a lot. Please let the police know if you have seen him! http://www.universalhub.com/2013/friends-launch-search-missing-owner-jp-video-storeSee More

FOUND: Groceries Cottage Cheese Pineapple (MBTA T Red Line)

This morning (Thursday August 1 before 9:00AM), I found somebody's groceries on the red line train between Downtown Crossing and South Station, I believe. (I get on at Downtown Crossing and off at JFK/UMASS). I did not pay attention to which train I got on, but I think it was outbound to Braintree. The groceries were in a white Market Basket bag. It was a tub of cottage cheese and a can of pineapples. I opted not to turn it in to Lost & Found, presuming they could not refrigerate it.If…See More

Haitian Child In Need Of Foster Care/Adoption

UPDATE/GOOD NEWS: Junior was placed with a foster family. For this reason, I removed contact info to ensure PIH and the church would not receive extraneous calls. Not sure if this is the best place to get the word out on this, but if you know anyone who can help, please share this info/contact the folks below:I am forwarding you the e-mail below on behalf of Molly Baskette, Reverend at the First Church of Somerville. Molly's family is currently giving emergency shelter to Junior, a 13-year-old…See More

Found: Keys and Debit Card

This is actually two different sets of lost and founds:1. We found some keys at Myrtle and Pond Street in JP. Maybe some jogger lost them on the way to Jamaica Pond?2. The guy who has that garage on Burroughs Street just before Centre Street in JP found some keys with Mike's Gym on the keychain and a debit card belonging to A. Teixeira, I think.See More

Help Haiti By Helping Your Neighbors

Posted on January 19, 2010 at 10:01am 0 Comments

For those of you who live in or near Haitian communities, helping Haiti by helping your neighbors is an obvious way thing to do. But even for the rest of us, there is a way to help out. On NPR, they were saying how relief groups in Haiti were being overrun by volunteers, and that this could do more harm than good in terms of redundant/overlapping services and in terms of diverting resources (food, water, etc.) needed fro Haitians to support the excess volunteers.

I Have Gloves...Should We Start a Lost and Found Board?

Posted on January 18, 2010 at 1:58am 8 Comments

What about starting a lost and found board? They have one on Craigslist, but I feel that's too massive. I have some gloves that I have found around town. (I was tired of being told by T employees that they don't take them and tired of seeing the same glove sit on/in a fence/sidewalk/street for over a week.)

I should mention that I have no matching pairs. People tend to lose only one glove, and tend to lose the left one the most. (As a lefty, I must wonder, what's up with that?)
