Do stuff with and for your neighbors

Read about this a while ago. Yesterday early a.m. a woman came into my office with a sob story. She had gotten out of her car to mail a letter and dropped her keys in the sewer. She called the sewer dept. but their trucks were busy cleaning out pipes. Her three kids ( this woman was far beyond child bearing age) were in the car. The locksmith was charging her $49.95 to make new keys and she only has $25.00. Could I lend her $25.00 until 11:00? When I asked where her car was she ignored that question. I told her that unfortunately I had no cash as it was payday but we don't get paid until late in day. I suggested she go to the tow yard next door as they probably had some cash. She took off down the street. I was hoping she would have gone in there, those guys would have had fun with it.

The more complex and conditional the story, the more suspect it becomes. The creativity is impressive, the circumstances motivating the con attempt are the real story.
