This morning around 9:00AM, detectives from District B-2 (Roxbury) initiated an investigation into a bicycle that was stolen from a victim’s house. The victim reported to detectives his bicycle was stolen from his house on 10/04/10 and that he had just seen his stolen bike advertised for sale on Craigslist for $200.00. The victim went on to tell detectives that he had contacted the Craigslist seller expressing interest in the bike and had agreed to meet up with the seller.

Detectives then had the victim call the seller and set up a meeting place. The seller agreed to meet with the victim at 560 Huntington Avenue in Boston after the victim specified that he wanted “the white bike” that he had seen on Craigslist which in fact was the victim’s bike. Once the meeting was set up, detectives along with officers established surveillance on the victim while he awaited the arrival of the seller.

Around 10:15AM, two male suspects rode up on two bicycles to 560 Huntington Ave. and one asked the victim, “Are you the one looking for the bike?” The victim responded affirmatively but stated to the two suspects, “Yes, but I wanted the white bike.” One of the suspects responded to the victim that he had already sold the white bike and attempted to negotiate a deal for the bike that he ridden there. At that time, detectives and officers walked up on the suspects and identified their office.

The two suspects were “Mirandized’ and post Miranda admitted to stealing both bicycles that they had in their possession at different locations in the Boston area. Both suspects however denied having the white bike that was advertised on Craigslist which they had come to sell. Both suspects were placed under arrest and transported to District B-2 for booking. As a result of further investigation, officers were able to recover the victim’s bike that was stolen from his house.

Suspects, Michael J. Williams, 18 of Dorchester and Myles McLean, 17 of Roxbury were both arrested and charged with Larceny Over $250.00. After the suspects were booked, officers discovered that the same victim had his bicycle stolen back in 2008 and had posted flyers for a reward for the bike in his neighborhood. The victim reported that his bicycle was returned to his house by suspect McLean despite the fact that he had never listed an address and that he had written a check to the victim.
