Two Arrested for Breaking into a Motor Vehicle

Early this morning around 1:04AM, officers from District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to the area of Gartland St. and Dungarven Rd. for two males breaking into cars who had just driven away in a gray minivan.

Officers responded to the area of the call and the surrounding area to try to locate the suspects’ car. An officer traveling from the direction of Forest Hills while traveling down Washington St. observed a gray minivan matching the suspects’ car description pull into the parking lot of the J.P. Car Wash and Laundromat and stopped the car for a threshold inquiry. Both occupants were observed wearing black hooded sweatshirts consistent with the description given of the two breaking and entering suspects.

Officers responded to the initial location of the call for the B&E and there noticed a car that had its window pried open resulting in it being off track. Further, officers noticed that the glove compartment had been broken. Consistent with the description that been given for the B&E suspects, officers found a large black handled screwdriver in the suspects’ car and a large metal pry bar.

A check of the suspect’s car revealed them to be in possession of a number of radios for cars and other electronic items. The suspects, Jonathan Silva, 22 and Jose J. Lopez both of Jamaica Plain, were arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle in the Nighttime, Possession of Burglarious Tools, and Receiving, Receiving or Concealing Stolen Goods.

Figured. I wish people called 911 more often.

Would you agree that if we called 911 to report suspicious behavior and crimes we witness then BPD would catch more people commiting crimes who tend to be responsible for multiples crimes in the neighborhood (like a spree of burglaries) AND would send a message that people are paying attention and our neigjborhood is not hospitable to crime?

Thanks for posting Captain.

Am I correct to assume that 911 was called in this situation?
