Cooperatively Unschooling in Jamaica Plain

Last night I gave a second free seminar on how (and why) to cooperatively unschool our children in Jamaica Plain. Many parents have shared concerns about sending their children to school and they are justified to feel this way. There appears to be a ground swell regarding this topic and as a result it's time to organize! I will be giving another seminar at Boing! on Wednesday, September 22 at 7:00pm.
Please register at: www.homeschooling.eventbrite.com.

Check out what a 2010 valedictorian had to say about schools in her acceptance speech.

I recommend reading the following book: Dumbing Us Down by John Taylor Gatto to get started, it's short and powerful.
Also: Free-Range Kids is an excellent book if you are interested in raising self reliant and confident adults. AuthenticParent.com is another site I subscribe to. I created this post as way for all of the parents who are considering this to comment and find each other. And....my biggest dream: Adventure Playgrounds.
How can we make this happen in Jamaica Plain?

Robin, thanks for another awesome meeting. I've attended both, and the kids and adults have both been deeply affected by both. It's so nice to stop feeling like there's something wrong with *us* and to know that there's a way to truly nurture our children.

If anyone is interested, a group of parents of younger homeschoolers (or future homeschoolers) are meeting this Sunday, August 22nd, at the playground on Cornwall and Brookside at 10 AM. It's part planning meeting, part talking about the fundamentals and logistics attendant to setting up a cooperative homeschooling group. Right now, children range between 2 and 7. If you're interested, please join us. And if you have older children, we can talk too :-) Robin will be there, prepared to share yet more of her wisdom.
