POLICE ARREST ONE FOR STEALING A CAR AND THEN REFUSING TO STOP

At about 9:30 am, on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) were on patrol in the area of Dimock Street when they observed a motor vehicle traveling the wrong way down a one way street. As a result of their observations, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the motor vehicle. A query thru the Registry of Motor Vehicles reveled or showed that the car had been reported stolen. As officers approached the car, the car took off. In short time, officers relocated the motor vehicle in the area of Wardman Road and Westminister Avenue. As officers approached, the suspect stopped the car and exited the vehicle on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to locate and apprehend the suspect. A search of the suspect’s motor vehicle enabled officers to find and take possession of a purse and several ATM cards. The suspect also had a stolen cell phone on him. The purse and the ATM cards had been reported as stolen in prior car breaks.

Officers arrested Maurice Pridgett, 29, of Boston and charged him with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property, Using a Motor Vehicle w/o Authority, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, Operating After Suspension, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Burglarious Tools and Driving to Endanger.
