Do stuff with and for your neighbors

Hi All,

Please see message below from a friend whose cat is missing...

Thanks,

Lena

Our beloved 7-year-old cat, Wallaby Rex (AKA Wally) fell off (or maybe jumped? we didn’t witness it) of our 2nd floor porch yesterday afternoon (Monday, May 31, around 12 noon-ish). We live on Paul Gore Street near the intersections of Chestnut Avenue and Beecher Street (with our backyard facing toward Sheridan Street). Wally had been missing for probably around 30 minutes or so before we realized that she was gone.

Wally is on the petite side – she weighs about 9 lbs. She is a domestic short-haired cat, mostly white in color, with dark gray markings on her face, ears, back, and tail. Another distinctive feature is that she looks like she has thumbs… her front paws look like little mittens because she has an extra claw on each (really cute). She is an indoor cat (only outdoor time is usually on our porch) and in general is very friendly and lovey (she is a cat who hops onto the laps of anyone who comes to visit us, purrs loudly, and loves to be petted and cuddled). I’m guessing though that outdoors she is probably pretty scared and skittish, and may not be her typical gregarious self. When we last saw her, Wally was wearing her collar. It’s black with little yellow fish on it (and white bubbles, I think). It has a tag with her name and our phone number on it, too. We have not found her collar so I am hoping that it is still on her (and unfortunately, she doesn’t have a microchip). The collar is not the one pictured in the photo below. All of Wally’s vaccinations are up to date (we go to the JP Animal Clinic).

We’re worried that Wally may be injured from her fall from the porch, and since there’s been no sign at all of her, we’ve been guessing that she may have hidden herself very well, maybe underneath somebody’s porch, underneath bushes, in a basement, etc. Since she’s small she could probably get herself into a smaller space fairly easily.

We would be so tremendously grateful if you could keep an eye out for her in the neighborhood. If you had any way that she might have snuck into a basement or anything like that, since the early part of the afternoon yesterday, please keep an ear out for meowing too. Because of last night’s and today’s rain, we are also guessing that if she weren’t hidden well already, she probably is now hiding especially well.

We love this cat dearly and appreciate any help that you are able to offer. Please be in touch with us at any time. Thank you very much in advance…

Wally is home! Here's a message from Rachel and Peter:

Hello all,
We are thrilled to report that Wally is back home, safe and sound!! We were out and about for many hours this afternoon and evening, talking to many of our neighbors and handing out fliers with Wally's pictures. Happily, one of our neighbors just a few blocks from our home (over on Clive Street) found her in her front yard, just after we spoke with her at City Feed. We are beyond elated with this happy outcome. Wally is in great shape - pretty remarkable, and such a tremendous relief to us. The other silver lining of this whole experience was talking with so many of the wonderful people in our community. We are absolutely humbled and honored to be a part of this neighborhood, and thank you all for your genuine concern and help in bringing Wally home. Thank you, everyone.

Best wishes,
Rachel and Peter

We just moved in down the street from you, and we'll keep a look out for him. Our neighbor puts out food in the evenings for the strays.

I'm SO sorry to hear this! I'm on Sheridan near Chestnut, and will keep my eyes open. I have 2 boys, and understand the pain you're feeling!! :(
